Lace in Place
Inspired by the rich history of lacemaking in Bedford, Bedford Creative Arts, artist Arabel Rosillo de Blas and over one hundred Bedford volunteers created the commission Lace in Place.

Lace in Place, the large artwork inspired by Bedfordshire lace that currently adorns the exterior of 1 St Paul’s Square in Bedford’s town centre, has been granted permission to stay until February 2013.
Saturday 5th May saw the unveiling of Lace in Place, an extraordinary new public artwork for Bedford.
Our spring 2012 commission produced a new public artwork celebrating the rich history of lace making in Bedford. Large scale hand-made lace adorned the exterior of 1 St Paul’s Square, an unoccupied Grade 2 listed Georgian building in Bedford town centre. Saturday 25th February saw the first public event as part of our Spring commission, Lace in Place. A steady stream of people came to Bedford Tourist Information Centre for Conversations in Lace.

Be part of the Bedpop Fun Palace with our next Mini Commission! The first Bedford Fun Palace is taking place on the 3rd and 4th of October 2015 and Bedford Creative Arts is looking for an artist to be part of it.
Throughout April we welcomed audio-visual artist Kathy Hinde back to Bedford to deliver a series of workshops inspired by Bedfordshire’s lace making heritage.
Last Saturday artist Arabel Rosillo de Blas and 20 enthusiastic members of the public created lace on a scale never seen before.
