What we believe
BCA describes itself as an educational organisation with a professional, contemporary gallery, rather than a gallery with an education programme. Outreach work in the community is a key priority of the organisation, not just a means to extend the audience for our contemporary exhibition programme.
BCA's background in the political beliefs of the Community Arts movement has a strong impact on the continuing values of the organisation. We aim to change society for the better by empowering local people to be more confident and to enjoy life, through an engagement with the arts.
BCA's core values:
We value and respect participants, visitors and artists, ourselves, our colleagues and supporters.
We believe the arts should be inclusive not exclusive.
We promote professionalism and excellence and strive to produce and present work of the highest quality.
We have integrity in all that we do and are transparent in our processes and procedures and open in our communication.
We aim to work ethically and with regard for the environment.
We are committed to developing and sharing good practice.
We believe in education and supporting people to reach their full potential.
