Vocal Migrations: A Work in Progress
Performance by You Are Wolf
Café Scientifique with project collaborators chaired by BBC Radio 4’s Quentin Cooper
Experience the first work-in-progress performance of ‘Vocal Migrations’, an immersive choral performance by local people, composed by Kathy Hinde. The choir will sing live, whilst having their voices electronically altered and shaped in response to how they move in the performance space. The piece is inspired by how bats ‘echo-locate’ using sound to ‘see’ their surroundings.
‘You are Wolf’ will perform songs inspired by flying creatures, drawing on English and American folk and original leftfield pop with gentle touches of electronica.
The event will conclude with a Cafe Scientifique, an open discussion to share the methods and processes undertaken during the creation of ‘Vocal Migrations’. Expect to explore connections between art and science, discover how bats use sound to navigate, and take the opportunity to question the project collaborators.
