Edgar Martins
The Diminishing Present

6 January - 10 February 2007

Edgar Martins has been considered by some UK art critics to be ‘one of the most influential young artists working within the medium of photography’ (defocused.net 2005). BCA Gallery is proud to be showing a selection of recent work by this significant artist.

The imagery depicted in The Diminishing Present has been described as ‘actual, familiar, always there, and yet imaginary, unseen… it is there when our backs are turned, while we sleep’. For example, the series of night-time landscapes were taken in Bedford, but this is not immediately apparent. All of the images are devoid of people, contributing to their haunting and intriguing appeal.
